Foods and drinks that are classified as 5e are very high energy density foods (20+ kilojoules per gram). These foods are nearly always high in fat, sugar, or both, so the recommended serving size is very small.
5e foods include butter, lard, potato chips, chocolate bars and chocolate coated biscuits. Unless you are very underweight or an elite athlete, you should eat these foods only occasionally. However, healthy fats and oils are also included amongst 5e foods. Healthy fats and oils such as olive oil, canola oil, nuts and seeds provide important nutrients, so you should include small amounts of these in your daily meal plan.
